Book ‘Em participated in Brookdale Elementary School’s annual holiday event, which has been organized by their Media Specialist, Mary Hickey for over two decades. All of the Pre-K and Kindergarten students, including the PEC students, made their own, unique gingerbread ornaments. They were assisted by five deputies from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office: Deputies Dominique Johnson, Amber Giltz, Tony Moss, Tim Jones, and Santel Smith spent the day with students mixing applesauce, cinnamon, and glue into a concoction that allowed students to create their own ginger-people ornaments and decorate them. We’re not sure who had more fun – the students or the deputies!
In addition, the deputies gave each of the students a brand-new book to keep. All Kindergarteners received a copy of the Little Golden Book, “The Nutcracker.” The Pre-K and PEC students received a Disney board book including titles such as, “Star Wars,” “Doc McStuffins,” “Princess Sophia,” and Disney Pirates. In all, 97 students received brand-new books to take home to keep and read over the holiday break!
